SERVICES
The services offered focus on understanding how the body functions as an interconnected system.
Through assessment, manual therapy and corrective exercise, underlying restrictions are identified and addressed to restore balance, function and sustainable performance.
Resolve Chronic Pain & Recurring Injury
Chronic pain and recurring injury are rarely isolated problems, they are often symptoms of a body functioning under strain or out of balance. Rather than viewing pain as the enemy, from a natural medicine and functional movement science perspective, pain is understood as the body's way of signalling that something within the system requires attention.
Since all systems of the body - the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, neurological, cranial and visceral, are functionally connected and interdependent (the principle of Body Unity in Osteopathy), the source and the cause of pain are very often not the same. This concept is explained by the examination model called Regional Interdependence. Key to solving chronic pain is therefore identifying underlying, pain-free dysfunction(s) that may be causative of pain elsewhere, and having the holistic knowledge to understand this pathway from cause to source. The ability to make these connections is part of the reason why Osteopathy has more success in dealing with chronic pain than other systems of healthcare. At Movement & Wellness, all treatment programmes are preceded, and continually guided, by thorough, in-depth assessment in which Kobus makes use of a full-body movement diagnostic system called the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), together with postural and clinical osteopathic assessments, to identify the root causes of pain or movement dysfunction. Based on these findings, a progressive corrective strategy is implemented, integrating osteopathic therapy with individual-specific corrective exercise. As part of his holistic approach, Kobus also advises on perpetuating lifestyle factors such as postural habits, training loads and volumes, and offers nutritional and stress management counselling where necessary.
Address the Causes of Ill-Health Symptoms
The term "holistic" is widely used in modern healthcare, yet its true essence is rarely grasped. While contemporary research increasingly recognises connections such as the gut–brain axis and the effects of stress on physical health, conventional medicine still focuses primarily on managing symptoms rather than identifying and treating underlying causes. There is no profit to be made from healthy people.
Kobus regards it his calling to help people overcome ill-health and dysfunction by identifying underlying causes and offering natural solutions. His approach is heavily influenced by the principles of traditional Osteopathy, built on the foundational belief that the body was designed with an innate ability to heal. These principles include that of Body Unity, which states that all systems of the body (musculoskeletal, cranial, visceral and vascular) are interconnected and interdependent. This phenomenon of interconnected functionality extends further to the unity between body, mind and soul. The role of the osteopath is to identify what is preventing the body from healing and self-regulating. The remaining principles of Osteopathy then guide how Kobus applies intervention to restore optimal function, including that structure governs function, the movement of body fluids is essential to health, and the nervous system governs everything at all times. Kobus' treatment objectives are therefore to identify and remove structural imbalances or restrictions of fluid flow causing the individual's specific dysfunctions, while his gentle approach works to settle the nervous system and optimise its function. His whole-person approach also includes protocols to restore healthy digestive function through healing diets and targeted therapeutic supplementation.

COMMON SYMPTOMS & AILMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH STRUCTURAL DYSFUNCTION
Optimise Sports Performance
Optimal performance is built on a foundation of efficient, balanced movement. Whether you swim, run, play golf, tennis or rugby, your fundamental movement needs are species-specific, not sport-specific. When this base of functional movement competency is compromised, the potential for developing movement efficiency (endurance, power or speed) and sport-specific skills is limited, and injury risk increases.
Due to previous injury, poor postural habits, poor nutrition, unbalanced or excessive training, or lifestyle stressors, the body develops adhesion or fibrosis in myofascial tissue. This results in imbalances of stability and mobility and decreased proprioception around the involved joint(s), leading to compromised movement patterns. The longer the body functions in this state of imbalance and impaired neural communication, the greater the effects of overuse, the more significant the energy leaks (a loss of movement efficiency), and the higher the risk of injury. Using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), Kobus evaluates fundamental movement patterns to identify weak links, dysfunctional patterns and asymmetries that may impair performance and contribute to recurring injury. Based on your FMS findings, a highly individualised corrective programme is designed to address your specific movement needs. As a Certified Functional Movement Specialist, Kobus uses an integrated system of manual therapy and movement-specific corrective exercise to systematically restore a solid athletic foundation. Your programme is always built around your individual needs, not the other way around. That is the only way to sustainable, optimal performance.
Functional Rehabilitation
Being pain-free does not mean you are ready to return to play. Due to the trauma of injury or surgery, which results in scar tissue, loss of motor control and interruption of regular movement, combined with time away from training, final-phase rehabilitation must also address the restoration of balanced movement patterns.
After the initial phases of rehab in which isolated mobility and strength exercises are used, Kobus's functional rehabilitation focuses on restoring balanced, whole movement patterns through an integrative system of soft tissue regeneration and progressive corrective exercise, targeted at the patient's specific movement pattern weaknesses, whether resulting from the injury or surgery itself, or underlying the original cause of injury. The corrective exercise system used at Movement & Wellness is based on the developmental path of motor learning, progressively restoring movement competency through sensory-rich motor control experiences, monitored by Kobus. It is the neglect of fine motor control restoration in typical rehabilitation that is most often responsible for the high incidence of re-injury. Once the quality and safety of whole movement patterns around the previously injured joint have been restored, the body is able to build movement efficiency and functional strength from higher training loads and more dynamic exercise, with a significantly reduced risk of future injury.
Infant Osteopathy
Osteopathy provides gentle and effective treatment for babies with a variety of conditions, including colic, digestive problems (reflux, wind, constipation), feeding challenges, sleeping difficulties, and musculoskeletal imbalances.
After taking a thorough case history covering your pregnancy, your baby's birth, and your current concerns, Kobus conducts a non-invasive examination to understand the tensions and restrictions causing your baby's discomfort. Gentle hands-on treatment is then aimed at alleviating physical tensions and imbalances throughout the whole body, often resulting from the trauma of birth or foetal positioning. Treatment techniques may include gentle massage, soft traction, mobilisation and subtle cranial osteopathy, all applied with great care. There is no minimum age for osteopathic treatment. The sooner a baby is seen, the easier it is to detect and release tensions that may disrupt normal functionality and cause imbalances which, if left undetected, may eventually lead to disorders later in life. Osteopathic treatment for babies and children of all ages therefore not only brings relief for immediate discomforts, but also supports healthy neuro-musculoskeletal development.
